Early flowable composites had a major drawback: their weak mechanical properties set limits to their use or required a final layer of stronger composite on top. CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal is different: its flexural and compressive strength are similar to those of conventional, paste-type composite systems. Consequently, there are no limitations regarding its use in stress-bearing areas like the occlusal surface of posterior teeth. This simplifies clinical procedures and provides for stable outcomes even in the long term.
Restoring multiple teeth with composite in the conventional way can be laborious and unpredictable. Creating a wax-up, producing a transparent silicon index and injecting a suitable flowable composite to build up the teeth to the desired shape can speed up the clinical procedure and support predictable outcomes. CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal can be used for this workflow due to its well-balanced flowability and mechanical properties. It easily flows into every spot of the index and maintains a stable, smooth surface over time after polishing.
Like in other composites of the CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES series, CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal contains submicron fillers and cluster fillers developed by Kuraray Medical Inc. These fillers are so small that polishing is easy and quick, while light is ideally reflected for a natural effect. The small particle size also prevents the formation of large irregularities on the surface of the cured product after toothbrush abrasion. Hence, the natural gloss may be expected to last.
Important part of the Universal Excellence Portfolio
At Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc., we understand the demands of modern dental practices. Balancing complex procedures, tight schedules, and patient care is no easy task. That is why we have spent years refining our materials—so you can focus on what matters most: your patients. Our universal products simplify your workflow, offering you high-quality materials and tools that work seamlessly with your expertise.
CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES FLOW Universal is the latest resin-based addition to our universal portfolio. Being suitable for a wide range of applications within direct and indirect restorative workflows, it is a valuable complement to existing paste-type composites and resin cements.
Two shades do the trick
CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal is a flowable composite that consists of just two shades: - One single universal shade (U) for all posterior restorations - Two shade options universal (U) and universal dark (UD) for the anterior region.
A smart combination of an enamel-like translucency, dentin-like chroma and Light-Diffusion Technology (LDT) does the trick. Thanks to the enamel-like translucency, light is transmitted through the material, bringing out the colour of the surrounding tooth structure. Fine-tuning of the chroma, which is not affected by the surrounding tooth structure, supports natural outcomes. Finally, LDT makes restorations diffuse light in a similar way as enamel and dentin. As a consequence, the material integrates easily and smoothly into the surrounding tooth structure.
This works extraordinarily well whenever several cavity walls are still present, like in posterior cavities (Class I or II) and cervical lesions (Class V). Light is simply reflected, diffused in the desired way and the original tooth shade is revealed. That is why in these cavity classes, a single shade (U) is sufficient. Cavities in darker teeth with a low amount of surrounding tooth structure that could be reflected and brought out (Class III and IV cavities), however, benefit from the use of a second, darker shade (UD).
Every need covered
CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal is available in two different levels of flowability: Low and Super Low. While Low is a standard flowable composite suitable for a wide range of indications, the Super Low option is special in that it retains the given shape. Hence, it is ideal for building posterior cusps and ridges, making it the go-to material for use in occlusal surface areas. No matter which flowability is selected, the material is easy to extrude. Due to its low stickiness, handling and sculpting with the syringe tip is also easy.
The syringe of CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal is designed to support effortless and accurate application. The needle tip design avoids air bubble formation and dripping after use. Moreover, modeling with the tip is easy, while the plunger reveals the shade and offers an appropriate extrusion force.

CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal
CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low is the latest addition to the CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ flowable series. It is a light-cure, radiopaque restorative material which provides accurate color matching, high polishability and excellent physical properties, making it ideal for both anterior and posterior restorations.
Its key features are:
- One shade covers* the VITA** 16 shades
- High mechanical strength: equivalent to Universal type CR
- Paste consistency with excellent handling
- Easy polishing and long-lasting gloss
* Class I, II cavities
** VITA is a trademark of VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Sackingen, Germany.
There are 2 universal shades available: “U” and “UD”.
“U” is the main shade. This shade covers the VITA** 16 shades for Class I and II cavities and the A1, A2 and A3 range for Class III, IV and V cavities.
“UD” is recommended for darker anterior restorations such as A3.5 and A4 (Class III, IV and V cavities).
** VITA is a trademark of VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Sackingen, Germany.
In CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow, each shade has its own color scheme, which must be selected according to the color of the target tooth.
CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low inherits the same characteristics of ease of use, and excellent polishability that have made CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow so popular.
In addition:
- The color compatibility of a single shade has been improved, making it possible to have a single shade covering* the VITA** 16 shades.
- The flowability is lower in Super Low, retaining the given shape and adapting to specific needs e.g., building cusps and ridges.
- The flowability is neither too high nor too low in Low, making it suitable for a wide range of cases.
* Class I, II cavities

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low has 3 key factors that make seamless blending possible:
- Optimized translucency
- Optimized Light Diffusion
- Adjusted chroma
The optimized translucency brings out the color of the surrounding tooth structure by light transmission.
The optimized Light Diffusion makes restorations diffuse light in a similar way to tooth structure. Consequently, the material integrates easily and smoothly into the surrounding tooth structure.
All of these features/benefits, in addition to an adjusted chroma, made the development of the universal shades “U” and “UD”. They provide a neutral color that picks up and blends in with the surrounding colors, thereby offering a chameleon effect.
Inventory management will be easier: some shades are rarely used but need to be kept in stock. This may result in the product expiring, contributing to wastefulness. Having a single shade minimizes this occurrence.
Additionally, some clinical cases could be challenging in terms of shade selection. Having a single shade with excellent color blending can save time and avoid mismatches.
CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low does not require an additional blocker or opaquer shade, either in the posterior or anterior region. This is due to the material’s specific level of translucency and the integration of Kuraray Noritake Dental’s Light Diffusion Technology.
CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low exhibits excellent mechanical properties similar to conventional paste type composite resins: Flexural strength: 152 MPa(Super Low), 151MPa(Low). Filler content: 78 wt%(Super Low), 75 wt%(Low). This makes it possible to use it as a final restoration material even in the posterior area for Class I and II cavities.
Yes, CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low can be used for the cementation of ceramic and composite inlays, onlays and veneers with less than 2 mm thickness. Please refer to the Instructions For Use for complete procedural instructions.

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low is a non-sticky composite and was designed with the best handling characteristics in mind. We use a proprietary silane coupling agent to treat the fillers. This and the fact that our composite contains both submicron and cluster fillers (0.18µm to 3.5µm), provide for superior handling characteristics to the paste, improving ease of dispensing, handling and sculpting.
Thanks to CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low submicron filler particles, CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low produces a high gloss and maintains this gloss over time. CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low is extremely easy and fast to polish in just seconds. Even by just wiping the surface with a gauze or cotton roll soaked in alcohol results in a high level of gloss.
CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low is designed to prevent void/air bubble formation during dispensing. It has a specially designed tip that decreases the risk of air bubbles by reducing unnecessary gaps inside. Additionally, the special design of the syringe and plunger limit the possibility of dripping during or after dispensing. The o-ring inside prevents the material from flowing after pressure is released, while preventing the plunger from retracting too much.
In order to allow prognostic confirmation after treatment, CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low has a radiopacity of 1.4 mmAl and Super Low has a radiopacity of 1.5 mmAl.
CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Low and Super Low must be stored at 2-25°C / 36-77°F when not in use. When the product is stored in the refrigerator, it should be left at room temperature for more than 15 minutes before each use to ensure the desired handling properties.
