KATANA CLEANER

Intra- and extra-oral restoration cleaner

KATANA CLEANER

For all restorative procedures. Intra- and extra-oral use.

KATANA™ Cleaner has a high cleaning effect due to the surface active characteristic of MDP Salt. In contrast to other cleaners, KATANA™ Cleaner has a pH value of 4.5¹ which allows usage not only extraorally but also intraorally. It is easy to recover the original bond strength for your cementations.

How it works

High cleaning effect

After the intra-oral try-in of restorations, saliva and/or blood reduce the bond strength. KATANA™ Cleaner's high effectiveness in cleaning recovers the original bonding strength. Now you are really prepared to cement your restoration!

Cleaning effect on zirconia

Contamination with artificial saliva

Contamination assessment based on the degree of staining with a stain that binds to proteins present in saliva.

Contamination with blood (human plasma)

The degree of contamination is evaluated by the degree of staining with an agent that binds to (albumin, fibrinogen, immunoglobulin) proteins present in human plasma.

Wide range of indications

KATANA™ Cleaner can be used not only extra-orally but also intra-orally, making it an all-purpose universal cleaner for the tooth structure and prosthetics.

Intra-oral:

- Cavity
- Abutment
- Root Canal

Prosthetics:

- Ceramics (Zirconia, Lithium Disilicate, Dental Porcelain)
- Resin Based Materials (CAD/CAM Crowns, Composite Resin)
- Metals (Precious/Non Precious Metal Alloys)
- Posts (Glass Fiber Posts, Metal Posts)

The ideal teammates

PANAVIA™ V5 is our strongest cement ever developed. And with five shades, our most esthetic one too. This makes a totally new kind of dentistry possible, where you can be confident during cementation.

PANAVIA™ SA Cement Universal contains the unique LCSi monomer that adheres to virtually every material including glass ceramics without the need for a separate primer. The original MDP monomer allows for chemical reactiveness with zirconia, dentin and enamel.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve put together a list of answers to the most pertinent questions.

What is KATANA™ Cleaner?

It is a universal cleaning solution suitable for all adhesive procedures.

Usage of KATANA™ Cleaner

For the purpose of cleaning the tooth structure and restorations, KATANA™ Cleaner is indicated for the following uses:

1. Cleaning of contaminated glass ceramic, zirconia, resin and metal restorations and fiber posts.

2. Cleaning of (contaminated) prepared tooth structure (cavity, root canal and tooth abutment), and implant abutment.

Why is it possible to use KATANA™ Cleaner intra-orally?

Due to its mild pH value of 4.5, KATANA™ Cleaner can be used not only extra-orally but also intra-orally, making it an all-purpose universal cleaner for both - tooth structure and prosthetics.

Reasons for adopting the KATANA™ Brand

The “KATANA” brand has gained a worldwide reputation for offering reliable, durable and aesthetic materials for CAD/CAM restorations. Our KATANA™ products have been developed to complement each other and therefore deliver even more durable and aesthetic restoration results.

Contents

4 ml in a flip-top bottle.

How to use prior to cementation?

1. Apply and rub KATANA™ Cleaner for at least 10 seconds.

2. Rinse and dry.

3. Cement the restoration according to the manufacturer instructions.

How to use prior to self-etch bonding?

1. Apply and rub KATANA™ Cleaner for at least 10 seconds.

2. Rinse and dry.

3. Proceed with bonding procedure.

What is the cleaning mechanism (action mechanism) of KATANA™ Cleaner?

KATANA™ Cleaner contains MDP Salt formed from the phosphate ester monomer, MDP and Triethanolamine. When applied to the tooth or prosthetic restoration surface, the hydrophobic group of MDP salt adheres to contamination, MDP salt weakens the surface tension of contamination and breaks it up. MDP salt surrounds contamination, floats from the surface of tooth and prosthetic restoration. Further break down occurs while in suspension and all that’s left to do is to rinse with water and dry.

What is the chemical difference between strong alkaline and strong acids to remove contamination?

KATANA™ Cleaner removes proteins and other contaminants by the surface-active effect of MDP Salt.

- Due to the alkalinity, proteins and other contaminants are decomposed and removed, but there is a high risk of invasiveness to the human body and it is limited to use extra-orally.

- The strong acid decomposes and removes contaminants such as proteins, but it causes decalcification of the tooth surface, which may reduce the bond strength of the adhesive material used.

Does the dye remain on the surface to be cleaned?

No. KATANA™ Cleaner is a detergent and thus highly washable. That’s why it is expected that there will be no dye remaining.

Is rubbing required?

Yes. Surfactant chemically lifts contaminants, but rubbing is necessary to remove them physically from the surface.

Is it possible to rub for less than 10 seconds?

No. By rubbing for 10 seconds, sufficient decontamination effect is achieved.

Is it a substitute for Ivoclean? What is the difference? Is there a difference between two?

Yes and it even has an extra benefit - KATANA™ Cleaner can be used intra-orally too. Ivoclean on the other hand, can be used only extra-orally due to its strong alkalinity.

Can it be used with cements and bondings from other manufacturers?

Yes. Please follow the Instructions For Use provided by the manufacturer of the cement or bonding agent.

On what prosthetics can KATANA™ Cleaner be used?

It can be used for a wide range of dental restorations such as glass ceramic, zirconia, resin and metal restorations and fiber post.

Does KATANA™ Cleaner have etching effect on the prosthetic surface to give mechanical retention?

KATANA™ Cleaner does not have etching effect on prosthetics. Depending on the type of prosthetics material, it is necessary to make use of the recommended surface roughening treatment (f.e. hydrofluoric acid or sandblasting).

Does KATANA™ Cleaner work as a silane?

No. Use a silane such as CLEARFIL™ CERAMIC PRIMER PLUS additionally, if necessary.

Storage conditions

Store at 2-25°C. Keep away from direct sunlight.

Expiration date

36 months from the date of manufacture.

Time to use product after dispensing

Use within 10 minutes after dispensing in a mixing dish.

Presence of bubbles in the liquid during dispensing

Bubbles may appear in the dispensed liquid due to the surface-active effect of the MDP Salt, which will not affect the product´s desired cleaning performance effect. Do not shake the bottle before use. When the bottle is shaken, bubbles may form and liquid may ooze out from the nozzle.
