TEETHMATE™ DESENSITIZER van Kuraray Noritake is voor de zevende keer op rij door Dental Advisor bekroond met de 'Top Product Award'. Verschillende onderzoeken tonen aan dat het product langdurig overgevoeligheid tegengaat. Bovendien geldt dat voor verschillende typen van overgevoeligheid, bijvoorbeeld als gevolg van terugtrekkend tandvlees of tanderosie, maar ook bij professionele tandreiniging, tandenbleken en restauratieve procedures.

De adviseurs van Dental Advisor voerden een klinische studie van zes maanden uit met TEETHMATE DESENSITIZER. In hun tandartspraktijken selecteerden ze 27 patiënten met overgevoeligheidsproblemen. In totaal werden 54 elementen in kaart gebracht door testen met koude lucht. De patiënten werden gevraagd het niveau en de frequentie van overgevoeligheid per tand aan te geven op een schaal van 1 t/m 5. Vervolgens werd TEETHMATE DESENSITIZER aangebracht.

De gevoeligheid werd meteen na de behandeling weer vastgesteld, en zes maanden later opnieuw. 91% van de patiënten gaf aan dat ze geen, of slechts milde, sporadische sensibiliteit hadden ervaren; na zes maanden gold dit nog steeds voor 85%. Dit geeft aan dat het product heel effectief is. Het zorgt immers voor onmiddellijke verlichting van overgevoeligheid, maar ook op langere termijn.

Andere onderzoeken bevestigen de werkzaamheid van het materiaal bij het terugdringen van overgevoeligheid voor en na tandenbleken¹  en indirecte restauratieprocedures².

Effectieve sealing

TEETHMATE DESENSITIZER is ontwikkeld om hydroxyapatiet (HAp) aan te maken. Het hydroxyapatie wordt precies daar gevormd waar het nodig is om effectief blootliggende dentinetubuli en glazuurscheurtje af te sluiten.

Het product is opgebouwd uit natuurlijk calcium en fosfaat. Het kan zelfs worden toegepast op vers geprepareerde tandweefsel zonder nadelige effecten op de hechtsterkte van daarna gebruikte adhesief of cement.

Een veelzijdig product kortom, dat bij een breed scala aan indicaties betrouwbare prestaties levert.

Conventional Cementation Vs. Adhesive Luting

Proper luting of indirect restoration is critical in achieving long-term success as it highly influences the retention of the restoration.

With the availability of different types of cements, the decision of choosing the suitable luting agent and method can be confusing for the practitioner. Especially with the wide use of contemporary restorative materials such as new generations of highly translucent zirconia as well as reinforced-composites, it is important to take into consideration that the properties of such materials differ highly from metal or earlier generations of zirconia.

Subsequently, the choice of the luting agent must be appropriate to achieve satisfying results and long-term success. Eerst moeten we toelichten wat de betekenis is van de term ‘universal’ in deze context is. We waren al bekend met twee typen composiet welke verschilden qua toepassingsgebied. Anterieure composieten, gebruikt voor klasse III, IV en V restauraties, waarbij de esthetische resultaten prioriteit hebben. En posterieure composieten waarbij de mechanische eigenschappen zoals sterkte en slijtagebestendigheid belangrijker zijn. In dit geval zijn universele composieten, composieten voor zowel anterieure als posterieure restauraties.

Een andere manier waarop je ‘universal’ kan uitleggen is ten opzichte van kleur. Hier wordt de term universeel gebruikt om een composiet te beschrijven die beschikbaar is in een kleiner aantal kleuren. Eén die zich aanpast aan de tandstructuur, onafhankelijk van de kleur van het element. Een groot voordeel van een dergelijk composiet is de vereenvoudiging van de workflow.

CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES-2 Universal is in essentie ‘universal’ in beide betekenissen; het is een composiet voor zowel posterieure als anterieure restauraties en het is beschikbaar in slechts 3 kleuren; één voor posterieur en twee voor anterieur.

Welke tandheelkundige professionals zouden het meeste profijt hebben van dit product?

De perfecte combinatie tussen gebruiksgemak en esthetiek biedt verschillende voordelen voor de behandelaar. Het biedt een duidelijke tijdbesparende procedure zonder dat dit ten koste gaat van de esthetische resultaten. Een exacte kleurselectie is niet meer nodig waardoor er geen zichtbare imperfecties meer zijn door afwijkende kleuren, hierdoor is er ook minder voorraad nodig. Volgens mij is dit product dan ook hét product voor de meeste gevallen in de dagelijkse praktijk.

Verbeteringen en ontwikkelingen van tandheelkundige materialen volgen elkaar in een hoog tempo op. behandelaars integreren deze innovaties en verhogen daarmee de efficiency van hun dagelijkse praktijk via vereenvoudigde workflows, tijdbesparende procedures en minder materiaalkeuzes. Ze zijn als gevolg daarvan minder afhankelijk van techniek. Door gebruik te maken van minder materiaal hoeft het ondersteunend personeel zich ook minder materialen eigen te maken.

"Ik leg graag uit waarom onze producten zo goed presteren"

Toen Hans Baars in 2008 bij een implantaatfabrikant werkte, werd hij naar eigen zeggen besmet met het 'tandheelkundige virus'. "Tandartsen zijn vaak vakidioten, ze kunnen heel enthousiast en aanstekelijk over hun vak vertellen." Baars wilde alles weten en dook volledig in de tandheelkundige producten. Dat leidde ertoe dat hij, inmiddels bij Kuraray, niet alleen als accountmanager werkt, maar ook wordt opgeleid als technical manager. Zo kan hij tandartsen niet alleen uitleggen hóe een product werkt, maar ook waaróm het product zo goed werkt. "Veel doorvragen zat altijd al in me. Ik neem niet klakkeloos dingen aan, maar wil weten waarom iets doet wat het doet."

Waar bestaan je werkzaamheden uit?

In mijn functie als accountmanager probeer ik steeds adviserend te verkopen. Het delen van kennis en creëren van bewustzijn is hierbij erg belangrijk.

Ook geef ik veel presentaties en hands-on trainingen. Ik vind het belangrijk om theoretische kennis te combineren met kennis uit de praktijk. Daarom ben ik ook regelmatig te vinden naast de stoel, zowel om tandartsen te adviseren over onze producten als om te leren.

Daarnaast word ik opgeleid als technical manager. In die functie ben ik lid van het scientific marketing team van Kuraray, waarin alle ins en outs van nieuwe producten worden besproken en vertaald naar marketing.

Wat is volgens jou het unieke aan Kuraray?

De producten van Kuraray staan garant voor hoge kwaliteit. In mijn functie is het erg belangrijk om vertrouwen te hebben in de producten waar ik over praat en dat ze wetenschappelijk onderbouwd zijn. Dat is absoluut zo.

Daarnaast stopt Kuraray veel energie in het op kennis brengen en houden van personeel. Dat is heel goed. Zo weten wij allemaal precies waar we het over hebben. En de lijntjes zijn heel kort, mede omdat we een kantoor in Nederland hebben.

Waarvoor kunnen tandartsen contact met je opnemen?

Ze kunnen me benaderen voor productinformatie, gebruiksinstructies, hands-on trainingen, lezingen en presentaties. Dit kan individueel of in groepsverband. Daarnaast kom ik graag langs om te vertellen over nieuwe innovatieve producten op het gebied van cementen, flowable composieten, CAD/CAM-blokjes en contaminatieverwijdering. Vereenvoudige posterieure restauratieprocedure zonder kleurbepaling

Efficiency is een belangrijke factor bij het restaureren van posterieure caviteiten. Dit kan bereikt worden door een materiaal te selecteren die kleurbepaling overbodig maakt. En een vereenvoudige layering techniek toe te passen. In onderstaande klinische casus past Dr Piotr Marchewka de single-shade techniek toe op een maxillaire eerste molar en een tweede premolaar. Hij gebruikt hiervoor CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES-2 Universal (U).

Dental photography as a valuable documentation aid

The main purpose of photography in dentistry is documentation. The aim is to collect as much information as possible under reproducible conditions. For this purpose, the camera used, its accessories and the format and lighting of the intra- and extra oral recordings relevant to dentistry must be standardized. Under standardized photographic conditions, the recordings made can be compared with one another, even if the later recordings are made only after a long period of time and by different photographers. Only in this form can dental photography be used as a valuable documentation aid. The standards described by Wolfgang Bengel in 1985 are still valid, but they have to be updated and adapted to technical innovations.

In this webinar, the current development in the field of dental photography and related areas will be briefly explained.
