Born in Savona in 1961, he lives and works in his hometown where he has been the manager and director of his own laboratory since 1982.
He got his Dental Technician Degree at “P. Gaslini” Professional Institute in Genoa in 1979 and still operates in the field of professional training as a teacher and counsellor for the “Scuola Odontotecnica Italiana” (Italian School for Dental Technicians).

 

His career features numerous international professional experiences in Switzerland, Germany and Japan. Visiting professor in Restorative Dentistry, University of Chieti-Pescara.

 

Member of teaching staff for Master in “Restorative Endodontic and Dentistry”, University of Sienna; Particularly devoted to the study of morphology and dental aesthetics, he actively collaborates to the development of materials used for aesthetic dental restoration.

 

He authored the text “Tecnica della Multistratificazione in ceramica” (Ceramic Multi-layering Technique) and a lab manual about the use of composite materials, aimed at establishing working protocols for both indirect technique and composite pressing on metal structures and implants and thus introducing his own method, named “Sistema di stratificazione a durezza inversa” (Inverted Hardness Layering System).

 

He also authored numerous technical articles about aesthetic restoration published both in Italy and abroad. Some of his cases have been published in the volume “Il restauro anteriore conservativo dei denti anteriori” (Conservative Restoration of Anterior Teeth) by Vanini, Mangani, Klimovscaja

 

Other cases he treated have been presented by M.D. Walter Devoto in “Odontoiatria Restaurativa. Procedure di trattamento e prospettive future” (Restorative Dentistry. Treatment Procedures and Future Perspectives). Contributed to “LAYERS, an atlas of composite resin stratification” by Manauta – Salat, Quintessence Publishing.

Replacement of Class II restorations with hybrid-ceramic overlays

When planning to replace Class II restorations, many things need to be considered. In order to select the most appropriate restorative technique and preparation design, it is essential to evaluate the amount and state of the remaining tooth structure, first. After repeated restoration replacement or in teeth originally restored with amalgam, for example, the remaining walls and cusps are often weakened and prone to fractures and cracks. When the cavity walls appear to be too thin or the structure is weak at the time of restoration replacement, it may be better to remove walls and cusps and opt for indirect adhesive restorations (overlays) instead of direct composite restorations. Due to favourable material properties – in particular a high flexural and compressive strength while being gentle to the opposing dentition and not too rigid for the surrounding tooth structures – we often opt adhesive restorations made of KATANA™ AVENCIA™ Block in those situations.

 

The following clinical case is used to describe the replacement of two composite restorations with overlays made of the innovative hybrid ceramic material.

UUS LAHENDUS ESTEETILISTE MONOLIITSETE MITMEOSALISTE RESTAURATSIOONIDE LOOMISEKS

Tavaliselt saab hambaravis kasutatava keraamilise materjali esteetilisi omadusi – eriti selle läbikumavust – suurendada vaid paindetugevuse arvelt. Kuraray uus KATANA™ Zirconia YML Noritake Dental Inc. on teistsugune. Selle kõrge painduvusega tooriku alumises pooles on tugevus 1100 MPa ja kõrge poolläbipaistvus ülaosas ja hambumuse piirkondades annab sellele suure esteetilise potentsiaali ja piiramatu näidustusvahemiku, nagu näiteks järgmise juhtumi korral.

Selle uut tüüpi mitmekihilise tsirkooniumiga on võimalik luua esteetilisi monoliitseid restauratsioone, mis sobivad kasutamiseks ka esihammaste piirkonnas. Hoolimata tugevuse järgjärgulisest vähenemisest saab seda kujundada väga mitmekesiselt ning lõikepindade suur läbikumavus annab pärast kuumkõvastamist loomuliku ilme. Monoliitse pinna mikrokihitamisest ja glasuurimisest piisab, et tagada patsienti rahuldavad tulemused.
